We're more than 20 years into the Times Union's Best of the Capital Region Readers' Survey, and this is the largest nomination and voter turnout we've had since the poll's inception.
This year's voting was different in a lot of ways: We used a more mobile-friendly polling service. We had a two-tier poll which carved out time to take in nominations, and used the top five (and in cases of ties, six) that got the most support to inform which businesses, people, services and more would go on to our voting round.
And, boy, did you make your voices heard. Nearly 18,000 people created more than 95,000 nominations of your favorite hot dog spots, spas, parks and theater companies. When we got to the voting, almost 24,000 people picked their favorites in the top spots, amounting to more than 360,000 votes. WOW.
You, the people of the Capital Region who participated in this year's poll, deserve your own Best Of category. So, will you settle for this magazine instead? In the pages going forward, we've got how those top five and top six nomination-getters fared this year. There are some constants from polls past, but there are some shake-ups you won't want to miss.
Thank you, all, for taking part in this year's survey. We hope it is a reflection -- if not an exact one -- of what you love about the Capital Region. Think we could do the poll differently next year? Let us know!
